The 700 series is a new High Speed Train that started it service in 1997 with the speed of 285 km/h. The train is designed to replacing the old 100 series train on Tōkaidō and Sanyō lines. The 700 series has a flat ‘duck-bill’ nose which many people can recognize it easily. It’s designed to reduce the piston effect when the train is entering the tunnel.
