In the 1990s, the ICE 2 had been put into service to replace the ICE 1. The ICE 2 had removed the passenger compartments and change it into seating arrangement that is similar to the airplane, which can increase the capacity of the train. It had a couple in both end of the train that can connect two trains, which the ICE 1 don’t have, and it increase the flexibility of the train arrangement. Since German is a urbanized country, many medium and large cities need transportation, and the ICE 2 can couple two trains that have different destination. They will run together in the high traffic line and separate later after they passed the area.
